Latest company case about Powering the World's Highest CSP Project in Tibet
Case Detail

Project Overview

On January 16, 2026, the main powerhouse crane of the Anduo Tushuo 100MW CSP + 800MW PV integrated project in Tibet successfully completed its first lift and was precisely installed, marking the transition from civil construction to the critical phase of electromechanical installation.

As the world’s highest-altitude tower concentrated solar power (CSP) plant and the first of its kind in Tibet, the project is located in the Tanggula Mountains at an altitude of 4,650 meters, earning the reputation as the “Roof of the World” in the CSP sector.

TOMUU provided dedicated U23D electric linear actuator solutions for the heliostat tracking system, ensuring reliable and precise operation under extreme high-altitude conditions.

Project Scope & Progress

The project is supported by Dongfang Boiler Group, which supplies core equipment including the solar collector system, steam generator, and turbine generator unit.

  • Heliostat installation progress has reached 70%
  • TOMUU delivered all U23D actuators to Anduo, Tibet in October 2025
  • The system supports approximately 16,000 heliostats
  • Total reflective area exceeds 800,000 m²

These actuators have been progressively installed and deployed across the solar field, providing high-precision linear motion support for efficient solar tracking.

Challenges: Extreme High-Altitude Environment

The project site presents some of the most challenging operating conditions in the world:

  • Extremely low temperatures down to -30°C
  • Strong solar radiation
  • Low air pressure and oxygen levels
  • Rapidly changing weather conditions

These factors place exceptionally high demands on the reliability, durability, and stability of all equipment.

TOMUU Solution

The U23D electric linear actuator is specifically designed for concentrated solar power (CSP) applications.

Key technical features include:

  • Brushless motor system for enhanced durability and efficiency
  • Stainless steel inner tube structure for improved strength and corrosion resistance
  • Pulse signal control enabling precise positioning and speed regulation of heliostats
  • Accurate solar tracking to efficiently focus sunlight onto the tower receiver

This enables improved concentration ratios and higher thermal energy conversion efficiency.

Product Advantages

The TOMUU U23D actuator delivers outstanding performance in extreme environments:

  • High-precision positioning
  • Continuous and stable operation
  • Long service life with maintenance-free design
  • Supports 100% duty cycle under full load

The product has passed multiple reliability tests, including:

  • Waterproof testing
  • Salt spray resistance
  • High and low temperature testing
  • UV resistance
  • Vibration and shock testing

These capabilities make it a core component of tower CSP heliostat tracking systems.

Project Significance

The project adopts advanced molten salt tower CSP technology, where heliostats concentrate solar energy onto a central receiver, heating molten salt to approximately 560°C. The stored thermal energy is then used to generate high-temperature, high-pressure steam to drive turbine generators.

Once completed, tens of thousands of heliostats will automatically track the sun, continuously converting solar energy into clean electricity. The project will significantly contribute to energy transformation and sustainable development in high-altitude regions.

Looking Ahead

As a professional manufacturer of linear actuation systems, TOMUU remains committed to advancing core technologies for CSP applications and overcoming challenges in extreme environments.

The company will continue to support global large-scale CSP projects with reliable, efficient, and durable actuator solutions, contributing to the development of renewable energy and the realization of global carbon neutrality goals.
