What Is a Solar Tracker Damper?
Solar trackers operate outdoors and are continuously exposed to changing wind conditions. Because solar modules create a relatively large wind-exposed surface, the tracker structure may experience movement or oscillation when wind conditions change.
A solar tracker damper can be used to help control this unwanted movement and make the structural response more stable and controlled.
Why Is a Damper Used in a Solar Tracker?
When wind acts on the solar modules, a tracker structure may move back and forth. Sudden gusts or changing wind conditions can sometimes cause faster or larger movement.
A solar tracker damper provides resistance to this movement. Its role is generally to help reduce excessive oscillation and make movement more controlled rather than to actively drive or position the tracker.

How Does a Solar Tracker Damper Work?

This does not mean that every damper behaves in exactly the same way. The actual damping characteristics depend on the damper design and the requirements of the solar tracking system.

Solar tracker dampers and linear actuators may both be installed within a tracking system, but their basic functions are different.
